Animal poetry

Talofa lava!  It is Samoan language week.  We learnt how to say talofa (hello), tofa soifua (goodbye) and that today is Aso gafua (Monday).  We also started talking about poems today.  We read a funny poem called The Dentist and the Crocodile which we would love to read with you!

We decided that we would like to write our own animal poems.  We are going to make a book of our poems when we have finished them all.  Here is the poem we wrote as a class:

Rats! by all of Tuatara class

Scurry, tiptoe, skitter
That's how this animal moves.
Hairy, scary, fleas all over...rats!

What do you think, our lovely readers?  We love your comments to please keep them coming mums, dads, family and whanau!  They are moderated so they don't appear straight away - but they will after a couple of hours.

Here are a few others that are finished already to get you interested!  Please come and look at out our poem book soon!

Frog! by Yasmin

Leap, swim, poison.
That's how this animal moves
Spotty, slimy, wet
Frog!

Rabbits by Samantha

Bounce, pounce, hop
That's how my animal moves
Fluffy, white, lovely
Rabbit.

Lamb by Devyn

Trots, gallops, skips
That's how this animal moves
Fluffy, cute, white
Lamb.

Rats by Blake

Jump, crawl, skitter
That's how my animal moves
Mā and brown, black eyes, scatter rats.

Dogs by Madeline

Howls, plays, runs around
That's how this animal moves
White with black spots
Tiny little ears
Tiny paws, tiny claws.
Dogs.

Cat by Leto

Run, walk, creep
That's how this animal moves
Hairy, fluffy cute
cat.

Giraffes by Abby

Stomp, gallop, thump
That's how this animal moves
Free, tall, knobbly knees giraffe!

I am very sorry Tessa and Evan - I am not sure how your poems came off this page.  Here they are:

Cat by Tessa

Jump, run, walk
That's how this animal moves
Soft, cuddly, lovely, caramel cat.

Cats! by Evan

Run, walk, prowl
That's how this animal moves
Furry, black, small cats!

Manuia lou aso!  (Have a great day!)

PS  If you would like to watch the interesting video of Good Citizenship we saw this afternoon, you can see it here.  It is 60 years old and it was recorded from a projector - this is how it would have looked to watch it if you were in a classroom in 1953!  It was very informative as well as interesting.

A walk to Featherston!?

We are becoming really good at writing narratives.  Tomorrow is Science Day which is very exciting, but it means we won't have much time for writing in the morning.  Because of this, Mrs Coombes gave us the start to our story and we wrote about the problem and how we would fix the problem (conclusion).  We wrote about Tuatara class walking over the Rimutaka Hill to visit Featherston.  At the top, there was a problem.  Here are some of the imaginative, exciting problems we came up with:

* A giant tuatara at the top of the hill.
* It turned out the Rimutaka Hill was actually an active volcano!
* There was a big hole at the top.
* The road exploded.  Boom!
* Some people didn't want to stop for a rest.
* There were so many cars that nobody could move.
* We got to the top and there was a whole other class of Tuatara kids - they looked just like us.
* There was a giant guarding the hill who took Renee.

Dear readers: Which stories would you like to read more about?  Would you like us to share all our stories?

Each day, we look at our blog on blogger and we especially enjoy reading your comments.  We would love to hear what you think of what we are doing.  Thanks for reading!

Cooking Waffles

Today we cooked waffles. There were 5 even pieces in each waffle and we found out that they are called fifths. We worked out that we would need to make 6 waffles for everyone in our class and Mrs Homer to have a piece. We could choose honey, maples syrup or jam to put on them. They were yummy!

Our SOLO assembly today

After a few technical glitches, the Tuatara blog for Monday is finally here!

Just before lunch, we worked with Pukeko class to present our SOLO assembly about respecting the outdoor environment - to the whole school!  We showed how to respect the outdoor environment with looking after the bush as our example.  Madeline, Garrett and Samantha did a wonderful job of presenting our item.  All of us had a really important role, from speaking to acting to demonstrating the SOLO symbols.

We are really proud of the contributions that Tuatara students make to our blog. Because young students are contributing independently there may be the odd spelling mistake!

Today in Discovery we made some special things for our Mothers. Our Key Competency was following instructions. We made some fabulous things. Mrs Homer was thrilled with what we did and we got 5 marbles in the jar.

Our narratives

We are working on our exciting narratives and we are going to share a great beginning from Samantha. We will be sharing more of our writing soon!

'Samantha went to visit her cousin's Chris and Chai. She opened the white door and they were in Harry Potter land. But there was a problem. How do they get home?'

We can't wait to read more!

First day back!

Today we did fun reading, some of us have new groups for reading. In writing we are starting to learn about narratives. Narratives are a story which could happen but it can be imaginary. We don't write I or me in a narrative, we write he, she, they, him, her or our name. Tuesday is BIG WRITE and we can't wait for our long writing day to start our narratives. We started a new unit about Being A Good Citizen and we glued our tuatara WALTs in ready to get started on our learning.
