As we continue to look at our families and communities, we have talked about language and how it plays a huge part in our lives.
To further explore this idea, we have created a list of words we use that do not come from the English language.
We would love it if you could add some words to our poster...words you use in your homes that are a part of your family culture or history.
Feel free to write them on the display in the classroom!

Discovery.
Today our key competency was reflecting on our experiences and our learning. We did that when we were sharing what we had made with the class. We worked hard and made lots of interesting things. Here are some photos for you to see.

Self Portraits
Thank you for helping your children gather this information.
We have also been creating self-portraits. Here is what the students have said about the activity:
Yesterday Mrs Homer took our photos. She cut our faces in half and then showed us how to draw the other side. She said that it wouldn't be perfectly the same. After she showed us we started.
Here are some photos of us working on our portraits.
Today Mrs Linehan helped us finish our pictures and then we got in pairs and talked about them. Our partners suggested some things we could do to make them even better.
Here are some of the finished portraits.
These are our thoughts about our pictures:
"I tried very hard." Emma B.
"I like the way I drew my face." Marian
"It was really good fun." Jack H.
"I love my portrait just how it is." Petra

Welcome to Term 3 2015!
Hi there!
We hope you have all had a wonderful break and are excited about coming back to school.
We understand that some of you may be a bit nervous or unsure about having a new teacher. We want you to know that Mrs Linehan is going to stick to the routines and timetable that you're used to. She is really looking forward to getting to know you all better and helping you reach your goals.
Our inquiry topic this term is 'My Past and My Present'. During this unit we will be researching and discussing how our family history impacts on the ways we live now and how we in turn, can influence the communities we live in. Some of our Art, Music and Writing will also be a part of this unit.
We will start the unit by doing some research about our names, family history and trees, and why we are living in the communities we do.
It would be marvellous if you could start to talk to others in your family about these things. You might like to collect some photos and information about your family history.
This term you will also be happily skipping in PE, continuing to develop your awesome Reading skills, and in Maths you will continue to develop your Number skills and learn about Measurement.
We're looking forward to seeing you on Monday!
